Cantor Robert Solomon, Hashkiveinu (1988/2001)

Cantor Robert Solomon is an internationally known composer of Jewish music, co-founder and performer with the musical group, Safam, and cantor at Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brookline, Massachusetts. He is also Samuel's father.

The Hebrew prayer "Hashkiveinu" is part of the evening liturgy recited every day by observant Jews.

"Let us lie down in peace, Eternal our God, and awaken us, our Ruler, to life again. Spread over us Your shelter of peace, guide us with Your good counsel. Save us because of Your mercy. Shield us from enemies and pestilence, from starvation, sword and sorrow, and remove Satan from before us and behind us. Shelter us in the shadow of Your wings. For You, O God, watch over us and deliver us, because You are a gracious and merciful ruler. Guard our coming and our going, granting us life and peace, now, and forever more."

Cantor Robbie Solomon composed this setting in 1988 as a lullaby in keeping with the text. It is dedicated to his mother, Shirley Solomon of blessed memory.
