Michi, which means “road” in Japanese, is a marimba solo by Keiko Abe. Featuring an almost non-stop stream of 32nd notes, this piece can be very intimidating to read. However, it is very idiomatic and often repetitive. It begins and ends with an optional improvisatory section. If the player does not want to improvise, then they may simply play the written part for those pages. This is a very popular solo for high school level players.
