Miriama Young, Snapdragon (2003)

This piece was written with the fiery exuberance and virtuosity of the Yesaroun' Duo in mind. Many thanks to Sam Solomon and Eric Hewitt for their enthusiasm and support in this Princeton-Yesaroun' collaboration. Snapdragon is written and dedicated to the Yesaroun' Duo.

Miriama Young is currently a graduate student in Music Composition at Princeton. In 1999 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honors in Composition from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. In 2000 took up a Fulbright Graduate Award to pursue graduate study in the States.

Music works published on CD includes "Speak Volumes (1998), on the CD "New Zealand Sonic Art", and a piece commissioned by Strike! Percussion Ensemble entitled "Iron Tongues" (2000) which is featured on their recent CD release: "New Zealand Percussion Music".

Recent work has explored the combining of oral history with radio documentary. Based on interviews with people who have a personal association with Meatpacking District in New York, Miriama Young's radio documentary "The Prime Cut" has been featured on Radio New Zealand’s "Revolutions Per Minute Show, "The Houyhnhnm Tales" on Resonance FM in London, and New York Public Radio’s "The Next Big Thing" Show.
