Program Note: Runaway paints the scene of a person walking on train tracks, alone in a barren desert wasteland. They are now liberated, free from whatever institution had a hold over them. However, this liberation comes with a price, as now they are also freed from having any connections with others, and therefore, are alone. The running theme introduced at the beginning comes back throughout the piece, and the cadenza section breaks away from structure and meter allowing the player to run free. -Taylor Ambrosio Wood
